Near an old, remote frontier post in Lancaster, Texas, S&C Electric Company, Schneider Electric and Oncor unveiled one of the most advanced microgrids in North America, bringing the technology one step closer to widespread deployment.

S&C and Schneider Electric built the microgrid in six months at Oncor’s System Operating Services Facility (SOSF). The system is designed to seamlessly integrate energy storage and renewable energy resources with cutting-edge hardware and software to showcase how microgrids can enhance reliability for Oncor customers.

With the recognition that microgrids and distributed generation are a growing trend and that these technologies will proliferate in the coming years, Oncor, who operates the largest distribution and transmission system in Texas, has launched what is being called one of the most advanced microgrids in North America.

The state-of-the-art microgrid facility was built by S&C Electric Company and Schneider Electric at Oncor’s System Operating Services Facility (SOSF) near Lancaster, Texas, and consists of four interconnected microgrids utilitizing nine different distributed generation sources, including two solar photovoltaic arrays, a microturbine, two energy storage units, and four generators.

Schneider Electric is bringing the Internet of Things to the energy sector with a new range of smart devices.

The new Enerlin’X range enables detailed visibility and insight into what is happening in their facilities to comply with green standards, by keeping a close eye on their energy consumption and operating costs. Schneider Electric product manager, Hastak Shah, said the new range was key to enabling a world of connectivity and data in the electrical space.
