The true value of IoT lies in the merging of real-time data collected by connected devices with historical data, and in its ability to enable appropriate actions, according to SAS Australia’s IoT domain lead, Kevin Kalish.At the recent SAS Analytics Insight event in Sydney, Kalish said that data collected ‘at the edge’ must be combined with cloud data to drive meaningful action if any value is to be obtained from the Internet of Things.

Stanley Black & Decker is making the IoT a priority for itself and its customers by deploying IoT systems in its facilities and, now partnering with the George Tech IoT Center and Auburn University RFID Lab to develop new solutions.In the newest development for the IoT-forward company, it has invested in the systems of View Technologies and installed them in its own facilities. View is a joint venture between Stanley Black & Decker and RF Controls that enables retailers, manufacturers and logistics firms to track billions of items incorporating RAIN RFID (Passive UHF) tags, providing them access to real-time data to enhance operational efficiencies.

Solar service company Sungevity has added a wireless smart meter connectivity device, the Sungevity Energy Hub, to its product portfolio.Connecting wirelessly with smart meters, the device is able to give homeowners real-time data on energy consumption every five to seven seconds.The information can help users detect when they use most energy and correlate their usage, solar production and overall costs.

OSIsoft, a global leader in operational intelligence, today announced the award of a grant from the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) to Turkish electrical utility company, Kayseri ve Civar? Elektrik Türk A.?. (KCETA?), to investigate the deployment of the PI System software as a real-time data infrastructure. The US funded grant is aimed at facilitating US trade and to help Turkey improve the electrical transmission infrastructure. By enabling real-time smart grid monitoring the project aims to reduce peak power load requirements and to improve the generation, transmission and distribution resources of the KCETA? electricity network.
