The ZigBee® Alliance, a global ecosystem of organizations creating wireless solutions for use in energy management, residential, commercial and consumer applications, today announced that NXP Semiconductors N.V. NXPI -0.35% is the newest member of the ZigBee Alliance Board of Directors, increasing the company’s existing membership to ‘Promoter’ level.
NXP has long supplied microcontrollers and transceivers for smart homes, connected lighting, and energy efficiency applications based on ZigBee standards. At the 2014 International CES, NXP showcased a wireless smart lighting network designed for ease of installation in the home. The demo includes an energy harvesting switch (battery-less, no wires) developed by EnOcean. The switch uses the NXP JN5161 wireless microcontroller and implements the ZigBee Green Power feature.

(NASDAQ: NXPI) and Belkin International, Inc. will demonstrate a “smart home” network that allows you to control light bulbs – each with its own IPv6 address – using a smartphone or tablet. The network features a WeMo device from Belkin that enables mobile devices using Wi-Fi to interact securely with smart home appliances using JenNet-IP – NXP’s ultra-low-power wireless connectivity software based on 6LoWPAN and IEEE 802.15.4.
