Picture this: Wheelbarrows full of signed postcards and petitions being pushed (literally) toward the offices of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in support of net metering, whereby energy consumers can generate their own energy using solar power. It really happened late last week, as residents throughout California — representing a diverse coalition of consumer, environmental, faith, public health, environmental justice, and business organizations –gathered on the CPUC steps to deliver more than 130,000 signatures in support of net metering.

Regulators in California are becoming more involved in the future of electric vehicles (EV), while those in New York are taking a major step back.

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is continuing to work to support the use of alternative-fuel vehicles in California in order to bring benefits to ratepayers, increase electric system reliability, and help achieve the state’s target of getting 1.5 million zero-emission vehicles on the roads in California by 2025 by opening rulemaking that focuses on the ongoing issues of financing options, appropriate rate design, and development of new policies related to alternative-fuel vehicles.

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has launched a suite of programs to expand residential and non-residential investment in energy-efficiency improvements.

The CPUC’s suite of energy-efficiency financing pilot programs includes an On-Bill Repayment pilot under which the energy-efficiency loan repayment obligation could transfer to the next utility customer benefiting from the upgraded structure.
