While the value of installing smart meters is often clear to utilities and regulators, customers require much more convincing about the benefits of the technology, according to those familiar with PG&E’s smart meter rollout.
Speaking during a recent webinar hosted by the Utilities Telecom Council, PG&E’s Cliff Gleicher recounted the utility’s history of smart meter challenges – some of which remain unresolved.
“It’s an issue that we’ve been living with in northern and central California for a handful of years,” he said.
