FierceSmartGrid: How did the gridSMART Demonstration Project evolve?
Karen Sloneker: The gridSMART Demonstration Project was designed to build a secure, interoperable and integrated smart grid infrastructure in northeast central Ohio that demonstrates the ability to maximize distribution system efficiency and reliability, as well as maximizing consumer use of demand response programs to reduce energy consumption, peak demand, cost and fossil fuel emissions. GridSMART actively attracts, educates and enlists consumers in innovative business models that provide tools and information to reduce cost, consumption and peak demand, and provides optimal information to the Department of Energy to evaluate technology and preferred smart grid business models to be extended nationally.
