Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co. is ready to expand its smart meter program throughout its Oklahoma service area.
The utility company filed an application this week asking state regulators to allow it to recover the costs of the project.
OG&E officials said smart grid technology will help customers manage their energy use at peak times to lower their electricity bills.
“This technology is also an integral component of our plan to avoid new fossil fuel generation until after 2020,” said Howard Motley, OG&E’s vice president of regulatory affairs.
