The City of St. George has a chance to make some advances with green energy this year, after receiving $700,000 to spend on alternative power and energy-efficiency programs.
The funds, provided through a block grant program included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, have been pegged for a variety of programs, including an expansion of the city’s SunSmart community solar farm, the design of a biomass generation plant at the landfill and several different rebate programs designed to encourage better energy efficiency.
