California State University is seeking $77.5 million in federal economic stimulus funding from the U.S. Department of Energy in hopes of launching a demonstration project to install and study smart-grid technology across all 23 campuses.

The stimulus funds would be combined with matching funds for a $155 million Energy IQ demonstration project. Project partners include Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, EnerNOC (Nasdaq: ENOC), public and private utilities in California and Galvin Power.
